Planning and Supervision Strategles for SOE Programs in AgrlcuI ture

Superv l sed occupa t l ona l exper ience (SOE) programs are an integral component o f secondary agr icul tural p rograms and provide essent ia l supp o r t t o t h e vocational n a t u r e o f instruct ion (Binkley & B y e r s , 1 9 8 4 ; Newcomb, McCracken, 8 Warmbrod, 1986; Phipps, 1980). Since 1908 , when R u f u s S t l m s o n f i rst I n t r o d u c e d t h e p r o j e c t m e t h o d , which g r a d u a l l y evo l ved i n to the p resen t day SOE concep t , SOE programs have p rov lded practical occupational exper iences for s tudents s tudy lng agr lcu I tu re (Moore, 1 9 8 5 ) . "The accep tance o f the superv lsed occupa t lona I experience p r o g r a m a s a b a s l s f o r a highly f u n c t l o n a l instructional p r o g r a m has been a chief contr ibutor to the success o f vocat lona l agr icul ture" (Dickerson, 1 9 8 4 , p . 4) .
